Snow-aka “Misery from the Sky”

That’s what I call that white stuff that falls from the sky. And it’s coming. All too soon. Lurking out there, ready to make life miserable for the next 4 months until those wonderful, halcyon days of spring and summer return……..But I digress. And yes I am a native New Englander who has also spent some winter time in the frozen grip of the plains of North Dakota. So I have a right to complain……..

But instead of complaining some industrious, inventive Nutmeggers of the past created some pretty cool stuff to deal with or play in snow. First off ways to move it….

From the most basic:

Snow Shovel 1883

To something with a bit more horse power:

Or, if you actually want to play in the snow and ice :

Combined Sled and Velocipede

This, BY FAR, is my favorite though: (I guess you can have SOME fun in the snow and ice)

Ice Velocipede 1892

Oh! the snow, the beautiful snow, Filling the sky and earth below, Over the housetops, over the street, Over the heads of the people you meet. Dancing, Flirting, Skimming along.
J.W. (Joseph Warren) Watson

Well, I guess it is kind of pretty…….
